Following the invitation from the editorial board of Contemporary Physics, Taylor & Francis Publishers, Andreja Gomboc, member of our astronomy group, wrote a review article about Gamma Ray Bursts. Article “Unveiling the secrets of gamma ray bursts” was published in the September issue (Contemporary Physics, Vol. 53, Issue 4, p. 339-355, 2012). It is available also on the web: Contemporary Physics Online or arXiv.
On May 18 2012 Gal Matijevič and collaborators published a paper in the Astrophysical Journal in which they present a morphological classification of ~350.000 stellar spectra obtained by the project Radial Velocity Experiment.
Among numerous normal stars they discovered several ten thousands of stars with chromospheric emission activity, binary stars and other types of peculiar objects. The paper is based on the locally linear embedding technique introduced a decade ago. The work of Gal Matijevič is one of the first and so far the most sophisticated use of this method in the field of astronomy, and for classifying stellar spectra in particular. Scientific results of the research group continue to be noted in the literature. The paper of Andrej Prša published in 2005 which is a direct result of his PhD project received 205 clean citations already. Members of the research group published 15 scientific articles in the last year (june 2011 – june 2012). In this period the past works coauthored by our team received 598 clean citations in scientific literature.
